Real will face Barca for the first time in October according to the newly announced schedule by La Liga organizers on the evening of June 22nd.

La Liga organizers released the schedule for the upcoming season after the draw ceremony at the headquarters of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) in Las Rozas, on the outskirts of Madrid. According to the schedule, the first El Clasico of the season will take place on October 29th, in the 11th round. Barca will be the home team, but the match will be held at the Olympic Stadium in Montjuic as Camp Nou is undergoing renovations. The return leg will be played on April 21st at the Bernabeu.

Last year, Real and Barca faced each other a total of five times. In La Liga, Real won 3-1 at home in the first leg but lost 1-2 away in the second leg. The Spanish Super Cup match in January ended with a 3-1 victory for Barca. The remaining two encounters were in the Copa del Rey semifinals. Real lost 0-1 in the first leg but won 4-0 in the second leg, and then went on to defeat Osasuna in the final to claim the trophy.

La Liga schedule

The new season of the top Spanish league will start on August 13th and conclude on May 26th, 2024. Barca will be away to Getafe in the first round, followed by matches against Cadiz and Villarreal. Real will travel to Athletic Bilbao, then face Almeria and Celta Vigo. The “White Vultures” will be away to their city rivals Atletico on September 24th, with the return leg taking place on February 4th.

Carlo Ancelotti’s team will play their first three matches away from home before the Bernabeu Stadium is ready for them to use. After the conclusion of the 2022-2023 season, the stadium management made urgent improvements to the pitch and replaced the seats for increased stability. This is the first time the stands at the Bernabeu have been replaced in 30 years. The seats will be changed from orange to gray. It is expected that the Bernabeu will be ready to host matches in September.

Barca won La Liga last season with a 10-point gap over Real. It was the first Spanish championship for the Catalonia-based team since 2019. This summer, Xavi made efforts to convince the club’s leadership to bring Lionel Messi back but was unsuccessful as the Argentine forward decided to play for Inter Miami in the United States.

Several sources confirm that Barca is close to signing Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan on a free transfer. This would be a quality addition to their midfield.

Real has brought in midfielder Jude Bellingham, forward Joselu, midfielder Brahim Diaz, and defender Fran Garcia. They hope to fill the void left by Karim Benzema, who moved to Saudi Arabia to play for Al Ittihad.

Atletico, along with Real Sociedad, Villarreal, Real Betis, and Sevilla, are considered the teams with the potential to compete for the top four positions. The newly promoted teams Granada, Las Palmas, and Alaves will face Atletico, Mallorca, and Cadiz, respectively, on the opening day.
