Liverpool Football Club sadly received concerning news just before their upcoming English League Cup final match. Defensive stalwart Trent Alexander-Arnold has been ruled out of the imminent cup final against Chelsea due to aggravating the same troublesome knee injury that had previously kept him sidelined for a few matches last month.

According to reports from The Times newspaper, Alexander-Arnold had suffered a recurrence of knee issues during Liverpool’s recent English Premier League victory, a 3-1 home win over Burnley. He was replaced at halftime by youngster Harvey Elliott after playing the opening 45 minutes. With the starting right-back off the pitch, manager Jurgen Klopp reshuffled by moving central midfielder Curtis Jones out wide to fill in at right-back for the remainder of the Burnley contest.

After the match, Klopp confirmed to the media that Alexander-Arnold had re-injured the same knee that he originally hurt in January during their FA Cup match against Arsenal. That initial injury was diagnosed as a minor ligament tear that forced Alexander-Arnold to miss three Liverpool games before returning against Norwich City in the next round. Since coming back from injury against Norwich, Alexander-Arnold had been playing but not always completing full 90-minute matches.

The latest reports underscore that Alexander-Arnold will now miss the cup final against London-based Chelsea on February 25th. Furthermore, he is expected to be sidelined for a few more weeks to recover. In his absence, Conor Bradley will likely deputize at right-back. The Northern Irishman Bradley just returned to Liverpool training himself on Tuesday after missing time following the recent passing of his father.

On a positive note, star forward Mohamed Salah did return to Liverpool training this week after missing time with Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations tournament due to a hamstring injury suffered in their final group match. Additionally, goalkeeper Alisson and defender Joe Gomez are both playing against Brentford this weekend after recovering from illness.
