PSG knock out of the Champions League again
The result of the Bayern vs PSG match was a comprehensive defeat for the French team, including individual errors from players and head coach Galtier.
True to the nature of a do-or-die match, both Bayern and PSG were cautious at the start. With the advantage of playing at home and a lead in the score, the Bavarians were deliberate with their ball possession, not rushing things.
On the other side of the field, the defending Ligue 1 champions showed their danger on the flanks with the speed of Kylian Mbappe and Hakimi. However, their first notable opportunity came from Messi.
In the 25th minute, Nuno Mendes made a speedy run on the left flank before passing to Messi, who made a break into the box. M10 had a chance to face the goalkeeper, but Sommer closed the angle in time, limiting Messi’s shooting angle considerably.
PSG suffered a setback when their captain and center-back Marquinhos had to leave the field due to injury in the 35th minute. Mbappe took over as captain.
Immediately after that situation, there was a golden opportunity for the away team. Starting from Sommer’s confident dribbling in the box, Hakimi immediately put pressure on them. The ball then reached Vitinha’s foot, but unfortunately, his shot lacked power and was blocked by De Ligt right in front of the goal line.
In the second leg, before PSG could regain their momentum, Bayern had already scored a goal. Their former player Choupo-Moting was the one who broke through and scored a close-range shot, but it was disallowed due to an offside by Thomas Muller.
However, they didn’t have to wait long to celebrate. In the 61st minute, Verratti lost the ball in the penalty area under pressure from Goretzka and Muller. Choupo-Moting then made no mistake in the face of the situation to open the scoring for Bayern.
Leading by two goals was more than enough for the Bavarians to play comfortably for the rest of the second half. Meanwhile, Coach Galtier had no tactical impact to change the course of the game.
He was confusing when he brought in young player Zaire-Emery, despite having experienced names like Carlos Soler or Renato Sanches on hand. The midfield was completely outplayed, leaving Mbappe and Messi hungry for the ball, ultimately leading to their defeat.
In the 90th minute, substitute player Gnabry scored the second goal for Bayern to seal the win 3-0 on aggregate, earning them a deserved spot in the quarterfinals of the Champions League. Meanwhile, PSG was eliminated in the round of 16 for the second consecutive year.
Disappointed and sad, but not a single tear fell on the faces of the PSG players. Because they lost comprehensively to the German representative and perhaps only blamed themselves for their personal mistakes leading to the poor result. Therefore, PSG only has a chance to win the Ligue 1 championship this season, but it is also too much to say that their season is over from here.
